Ski Touring New Zealand

Inspiration for winter...

Mt Stafford from Snowy Gorge Creek, Barrier Range

We skied this as part of a 3 day trip in which we also skied Mt St Mary.
After a good exercise induced coma we skinned up Snowy Gorge Creek sidling higher and higher on the true left, until we were able to cross a col into the Mt Stafford face (the col is just west of pt 1769 on the east ridge of Mt Stafford.169.40’46.5″ S44.15’58”).

After a short descent from the col to the Mt Stafford face then skin angling North across the face to summit from the NE. (note the short descent can be bypassed on the return descent by crossing the ridge higher). Ski mountaineering equipment required.
