The Remarkables has many short day ski tours available. One option is to access the bowls to the East of the ski field, an area known as The Doolans.
There are many options here for touring, but a fun loop to do is to head up the Sugarbowl lift, then skin up the ridge to end up just south of peak 2057. Ski down the initially steepish headwall to the more mellow bowls of the Doolans. Traverse south with many options for playing in the rolling back country. There are several opportunities to escape back onto the ridge and into the ski area via broad spurs or gullies. Having said this the Doolans basin is surrounded by a headwall which is a bit steeper than the bowl itself and can be susceptible to wind loading, so choose your exit route according to conditions.
A nice option is to continue south to the col just to the SE of Peak 2035, which leads to the broad gentle gully of the North Branch Wye Ck, and an exit down onto the Remarkables ski field.
Since the installation of the new Curvey Basin Chairlift, many skier are using this for access, with a relatively short 10 minute skin up over the ridge and in to the Doolans.
When there is good snow stability this tour is a good introduction to the sport of ski touring. Check with the Remarks Patrol for conditions. They are the most hospitable patrol in the country and may well even make you a hot cuppa!
